Theme: Engaged: Sculpture as Catalyst for Social Change

The Mid-South Sculpture Alliance is pleased to announce a call for art for an outdoor sculpture exhibition that explores the role of sculpture as a catalyst for social change and community building. We invite artists to submit up to three original, prefabricated outdoor sculptures that resonate with social awareness, education, and dialogue.

About Mid-South Sculpture Alliance: The Mid-South Sculpture Alliance is dedicated to advancing the creation and awareness of sculpture in its many forms. We promote a supportive environment for sculptors and seek to foster dialogue between artists, art professionals, and the wider community.

Location: Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark Sculpture Courtyard

Submission Guidelines:

  • Artists are invited to submit up to three original, prefabricated outdoor sculptures that address the theme of emotional monumentality, reconnection, and restoration.

  • Submissions must include a detailed artist statement outlining the concept, materials, dimensions, and installation requirements of the sculpture (s).

  • Artists must include three images of each artwork they wish to be considered for the exhibition. Please submit each sculpture separately. 

  • Artworks must be able to be secured in multiple spots to circular concrete pads measuring 6 feet in diameter through tabs or brackets welded to the structure. 

  • All submitted works must be accompanied by a current resume/CV, artist statement, and a portfolio of up to 5 images of previous, relevant work. 

  • An exhibition catalog documenting all accepted works will be produced for the conference. A representative image and an artist statement for each performance will be included. Artwork images, artist statements and biographies submitted for the jurying process will be used for the catalog production. 

  • Submissions should be made using the Google Form located here. Detailed instructions for each required element are available on the form.

Eligibility: This call is open to all MSA members.

Selection Process: A jury of art professionals and representatives from the Mid-South Sculpture Alliance and Sloss Furnaces Metal Arts Program will review all submissions and select sculptures for inclusion in the outdoor exhibition.

Exhibition Details: Selected sculptures will be installed onsite at Sloss Furnaces. 

  • Awarded artists will receive $2500 for the year-long exhibition.

Important Dates:

  • Call published: June 15th 2024 

  • Deadline for submissions: July 15th 2024

  • Notification of acceptance: August 1st 2024

  • Sculpture delivery date: October 28-31st 2024 

  • Exhibition dates: November 1st 2024 - November 1st-8th 2025
